The food industry is a heavy burden on our environment. The production of food requires vast amounts of natural resources and causes numerous environmental problems, including pollution and land-degradation. That our current food industry is unsustainable is an acknowledged fact, but what are feasible alternatives? Which current (technological) developments should be further explored for possible solutions? Is the victimless meat paradigm for instance a serious alternative to today’s bio industry meat? And can information technologies such as phone-apps perhaps assist in steering consumer behavior towards more sustainable consumption?
